Smack your lips and Savour this - Vadodara's "Raju Omlet Centre" has bagged the times now foodie Award-2012.
The jury for the awards that travelled the length and breadth of the country selected the very popular egg joint in the city in the 'Best Roadside Dhaba' Category.
And 51 year old Rajesh Bhogilal Rana better known as Raju after whom the joint is named, could not have been happier.
"I have Probably got more than what was written in my fate. This is an award for those who eat at my place," Rana said humbly.
Rana had begun business as 21 year old who wanted to do a part time business after his job at printing press. "I Decided to start an Omlet outlet as it works only in night. My family was not very convinced as those days doing so was looked down upon by the community" he said.
But ana stuck to his decision and started business on a handcraft in karelibaug area of the city in 1982. In 1995 he bought a shop in near by complex that today functions as kitchen and cash counter. You are still supposed to stand outside on tables and eat.
Rana had initially started dishing out Omlet, 'Bhurji' and half- fries. But his delicacies now include dishes like crush fry, boiled tikka and others that he added over a period of time. "My customers added the dishes. They gave suggestions and I kept working on them," he said
He stood alone at the handcraft in 1982, he now has 12 persons who work at the outlet.
